Nur Ashki Jerrahi Order and the Circle of Ishq

Our Lineage, Our Practices

The “ishq” in our name means passionate love for God. The primary activity in our Minnesota circle and in our order is the zikr Ceremony of Divine Remembrance, a combination of music, movement and prayer which follows the ancient forms of Islamic Sufism as a path leading beyond ordinary reality into Divine Mystery.

Our order is led by Shaykha Fariha al-Jerrahi who, with Shaykha Amina Teslima, guides two large circles in New York and Mexico Cities and smaller circles around the world. Our spiritual lineage flows through the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to our founding saint, Pir Nureddin Jerrahi, and his modern successors Shaykh Muzaffer Ashki and Shaykh Nur Lex Hixon.

Circle of Ishq

The Twin Cities Circle of Ishq is led by Karima Ashki Nur (Karima Bushnell) and her son, Isa Nureddin (Garek). Karima, an intercultural relations professional and Irish fiddle player, holds the title of khalifa in the order. She was a close student of Shaykh Nur al-Jerrahi. Isa Nureddin was initiated as a Jerrahi Sufi at age five and has participated in Jerrahi zikr and the Dances of Universal Peace all his life, most recently adding Heart Rhythm meditation. He plays bass and performs as an actor and singer.

All Are Welcome

We honor the holy ones of all religions, and many of our dervishes participate in multiple traditions. Shaykh Nur himself was both a Zen roshi and a Sufi shaykh and was deeply involved with Vedanta Hinduism, Orthodox Christianity and other mystic paths. We believe the world's religions express countless approaches to That Which can be intimately known but never captured or described. People of every faith and belief system are welcome here!
