The Sufi Ceremony of
Divine Remembrance

Sitting, standing, and moving circles of music and prayer invite ecstasy as souls meet beyond personality. Our zikrs flow from the traditional practice of the mystics of Turkey, Egypt, and the Middle East. People of all religions and traditions are welcome.

As you practice with us, you may experience the subtle presence of the Friends of God as we sing the holy songs (illahis), which recite their names, recount their stories and touch upon their spiritual states. These Friends include holy women such as Mariam (Mother Mary), Muhammad's wives Khadija and Aisha and daughter Fatima, and sufi saint Rabi'a al-Adawiya.

During our practice we repeat some of the 99 Beautiful Divine Names including The Alive (al-Hayy), The Truth (al-Haqq), and The Mysterious Essence (Hu). These form the foundation of our experience.

Light Upon Light Sufi Center offers weekly zikrs from two Sufi traditions: Nur Ashki Jerrahi (as described on this page) and Ruhaniat International.  See the schedule in the sidebar to find times. Zikrs are held at Light Upon Light Sufi Center.
