DANCES OF UNIVERSAL PEACE

The Dances of Universal Peace and Walking Meditations are prayer in motion. Drawing on the sacred phrases, scripture, and poetry of the many spiritual traditions of the earth, the Dances blend chant, live music and movement into a living experience of unity, peace and integration. This taste of our true nature – as Universal Peace – opens to the possibility of a deep spiritual revolution within the person.

From the outside it looks like we are holding hands, singing the Names of God from all around the world, and doing easy round dance forms. From the inside we are having quick and radical shifts in awareness as individuals and as a group. The Persian poet Rumi speaks of the Wine of Love. Jesus speaks of the Peace that passes understanding. The Buddha speaks of the Emptiness, not as absence but as potentiality. These and more are available, not as poetic ideas but as direct experience. Easy and satisfying, all dances are taught for beginners each time.

We hold that all religions can lead to direct experience of our Divine Source. We do not honor any particular path over another, letting effectiveness determine what is right for each person.  For more info visit www.dancesofuniversalpeace.org

Join us on the 4th Sunday of each month

John Hakim Bushnell leads the Dances of Universal Peace on the 4th Sunday of each month from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the Light Upon Light Sufi Center in Minneapolis.  Most months, this is followed by a potluck at his home, a few minutes away, from 4:15 – 6:00 pm. He’s also the organizer of the meetup group, The Minnesota Dances of Universal Peace, where you can find the schedule for this and additional Dances of Universal Peace in the Twin Cities area.

On Movement, Spirituality & the Dances…

“It brings out beauty of form and movement, and envelops our personalities in the enjoyment of them. It takes us beyond ourselves, bringing an initial taste of the state of non-being, which is really a balm for the soul.
